Entry level certificate in adult literacy

From September 2002 the only adult literacy qualifications eligible for LSC funding will be those which are based on the national standards for adult literacy and which have been accredited into the National Qualifications Framework by QCA. The national standards for adult literacy cover the skills of speaking and listening, reading and writing and are set at Entry level and levels 1 and 2 of the NQF, and these standards also form the basis of the Adult Literacy Core Curriculum.

In order to recognise the achievements of learners at Entry level, this level is divided into three stages: Entry 1, Entry 2 and Entry 3. These learners may not be at the same stage of Entry level for all three components of adult literacy (speaking and listening; reading; writing). To cater for this spiky profile, the Entry level certificate in adult literacy records achievement of each component at the stage of entry level reached. (eg Speaking and listening: Entry 3; Reading: Entry 2; Writing: Entry 1).

To enable these new qualifications to be evaluated, initial accreditation is until August 2004. This table allows you to compare details of arrangements offered by the awarding bodies accredited by QCA to offer the Entry level certificate in adult literacy:
